Adding Color To Your Winter Wardrobe

I have resisted winter for the past 15+ years of my life, and now in my adult life I have finally submitted to the changing seasons. Why did I resist for so long you ask? Well, when you live in Texas where 9 months out of the year is blazing hot, I saw no need to “invest” in winter attire. I had little to no money, so I wasn’t about to spend it on something that I would wear year round. So come winter, I layered up with old jackets that I had grown out of and wore them as cropped instead. I’ll admit during those cold times I was incredibly miserable because I didn’t have the proper attire nor foot wear, but again I was stubborn about buying new items.
Last year, we took a trip to NYC and I knew I couldn’t get by with my old ways. So last minute we went to Burlington Coat Factory and bought some items to wear. I narrowed my selections down to two different items, a pink Michael Kors trench coat, and a classic black jacket with gold detailing. I tried to talk myself out of buying the spring style trench, because it wasn’t going to be warm enough, and also it was pink. I decided to go through with it because hey we were visiting during Spring Break, and that is spring in my book. Flash forward to NYC, and as predicted I’m incredibly cold, and standing out in the crowd like your classic tv/movie shot of a woman walking in a sea of black and grey attire. Admittedly, I only wore it once while we were in NYC for 5 days, but I don’t regret my purchase because I was still cold in the black jacket too. Sadly, I’ve only worn the coat twice, because it’s just way too hot in Houston, even on a spring day to commit to a long coat.
3 Different Ways to Add Color
If you’re feeling bold, I say go for a bright outer coat.
If you live in a place that is more fall than winter, stick with your royal colors.
If you want to ease into color, just give a subtle pop with a good shoe.
